My young female goat was mounted. Why is her leg injured?

I would be concerned about either a soft tissue injury, a bone being broken, or even a spinal disc rupturing due to the struggle to get out. Any of those issues could make her stop walking with her rear. I'd recommend having her evaluated ASAP.

You will need to have your goat examined by a veterinarian as he may have arthritis caused by a virus (CAE). The arthritic form of the CAE virus is most common and is seen in adult goats 1 - 2 years old. The goats often suffer from weight loss, poor hair condition, and enlarged joints. Lameness is a cardinal sign. CAE can be diagnosed via a blood test. He may have other problems such as an injury, a fracture or a severe sprain. This can only be diagnosed via a hands-on exam by your vet.

I feel like it is unlikely that she is going into labor. Dragging the back legs can be a sign of neurologic disease. Polio or pregnancy toxemia are possible, but she needs to be examined by a vet to determine if this is the case and to receive appropriate treatment. A swollen anus could be due to inflammation or a prolapse secondary to straining. It, too, should be examined by a vet.

Check her temperature. If she has a fever, call out your farm vet. Potential causes include infection, vitamin/mineral deficiency (namely vitamin E and selenium), parasites (the most worrisome being meningeal worm) or trauma. Keep her warm and as stress free as possible. If necessary, rig up a sling to help her get around. The easiest is a towel slung underneath her behind the front limbs. Without an exam, it is difficult to determine definitively what is happening. If her symptoms are worsening, consider an emergency vet call out or trip to the nearest veterinary ER.

This does not look normal, especially if it’s been like that a week. You need to have a veterinarian examine her to make sure the kids are alive and that she has enough room to have them naturally after her injury. I would definitely be concerned enough to call a vet out for this. If she was in labor, then you would have seen signs of this (swollen vulva, fluid discharge, etc.) and it would not cause them to act this debilitated. I recommend getting her seen by a vet as soon as possible, so they can determine what the problem is. I hope that helps and Blue gets better soon.

This is a method called banding, and it is still pretty widely used amongst farmers. Usually it goes without issue or complication, but does have the potential to cause some pain and inflammation. This sounds like once of those cases. Jackson likely could benefit from some pain meds and anti-inflammatory medications. Also, if blood supply was cut off for long enough that there are now just a pair of dead or dying testicles on Jackson, the testicles will need to be removed surgically. I would contact your local veterinarian sometime tomorrow to address this issue and at minimum get him on some pain management.
