Canary Wing Parakeet (Brotogeris versicolurus)
Description
Canary Winged Parakeets are beautiful mostly green birds, with hints of blue on their tail, and have a characteristic yellow and white patch on their wings. They are extremely affectionate and intelligent birds who love to climb, spend time with their pet parent, and play with toys. Their playful personality is sure to win over everyone they meet!
- - Canary Winged Parakeets thrive on human interaction and while they are not known to be the best mimicker of human words, they may be able to learn a few and are not shy about chattering in their own language
- - Need activities, such as swinging, climbing, and time outside of their habitat to keep them active as well as foraging and puzzle toys to keep them mentally stimulated
- - While many birds are known as "one person pets", it is not unusual for Canary Winged Parakeets to be affectionate with everyone in the family
- - Canary-winged Parakeets like to whistle and sing quiet melodies, however they can also utter high-pitched "screeks" interspersed with "weechah-weechah". If housed together, these parakeets perform some duets, involving a rapid exchange of calls
- - Canary Winged Parakeets enjoy room temperature baths and are a delight to watch bathe
- - Birds should be socialized daily by the pet parent
- - Can be kept alone to bond with pet parent or in pairs to bond with each other. Different types of birds should not be housed together
