How can I stop my bunny from peeing on the bed and getting wet paws?

It may be marking behavior considering he is intact. It could also be stress/excitement or simply being held too long and he has to relieve himself. Consider having him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits to rule out medical causes. You can discuss neutering during the appointment. In the meantime, when holding him, place a towel on your lap and make sure he has ample opportunity to use the litterbox. Watch for a raised or twitching tail which usually indicates he is about to urinate or defecate.

Place a litterbox in each corner of the cage. When he goes outside of it, pick up the pellets and place them in the box he uses most often. Do the same with his urine. Soak It up with a tissue or scoop the wet bedding into the litterbox. Remove the litterboxes he doesn't use, one at a time, once you have determined his preference. You'll need to gradually acclimate him to allowing his feet to be touched. Allowing his feet to remain wet or wetting them frequently may predispose him to infection.

Thanks for reaching out about Vasco. It is not uncommon for male rabbits to urinate on areas as territoriality marking. Castration is recommended in an attempt to curb this behavior, Works on most but not on all. The thicker, brown urine might be a result of testosterone but also too much green vegetables in the diet. I am sorry to hear about your problem with Lupin (love the name!). If he had previously been using a litterbox well and out of the blue started urinating all over then I would be concerned we could have a medical issue like an infection or kidney problems and would recommend a visit to the vet. If this is an ongoing issue it could be territorial marking especially if he is an unneutered rabbit, or a behavioral reaction to too few litterboxes, dirty boxes, or changes in the environment. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Rabbit. Spraying can be due to a medical or behavioral problem. Good news is that both are treatable. Medical problems are usually due to cats developing Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease or Syndrome, also known as Feline Interstitial Cystitis. This has many causes including stress, infection, urinary crystals/stones which all lead to bladder inflammation among other changes including spraying. I would advise making an appointment with your veterinarian so they can examine him and perform some tests including a urinalysis to see if there are signs of a medical problem. Sometimes blood tests are required to make sure the kidneys and internal organs are functioning properly. Once a diagnosis is made there are various ways to treat this including drugs to treat the stress, infection (if any), and the inflammation. Sometimes a special diet is advised if crystals are present. Or even surgery if urinary stones are actually present depending on the type of stones and how big/how many there are. Behavioral problems are assumed if the medical tests come back normal. These problems can be addressed with some medications in the hopes of decreasing/stopping the urine spraying. One last thing, if it's medical and a lower urinary problem, male cats can block with this disease which can prevent them from urinating. Determine where Fluffy is eliminating most often then place a litterbox on that spot. Place a few others in the vicinity. If she urinates or defecates outside the box, scoop up the pellets and place them in the preferred box. A tissue can be used to soak up urine which can then be placed in the preferred box as well. When she begins to use one box regularly, gradually remove the other boxes over several weeks.

Wounded Warrior is a very cute rabbit! I am not sure if it is because of the angle of the picture, but the litter box looks like it may be a bit small for your rabbit. Ideally the box should be big enough so that two rabbits of Wounded Warrior's size could fit inside of it. That may help provide some extra weight to discourage your rabbit from trying to pick up the box, and will also give her enough space to hop into the box and turn around. Also, some brands will also have a way to secure the litter box to the side of the cage, which may also help. One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes rabbits will decide to lay/relax in their litter box - for these rabbits, we often will recommend having two available.
