My pet has ringworm. Will fur loss continue or spread with treatment?

While it may clear up in a week or so, it’s not uncommon to be a bit of a longer battle for some, and sometimes difficult to clear. Once the patches of hair loss decrease in size and hair begins to grow back in typically indicates that treatment is successful. If the lotion you are using does not help, I have used Malacetic Conditioning spray, which can be found online. This can be applied twice daily until resolved. I hope this helps! They can definitely look worse right before they get better. This happens when the body pushes out the old/diseased skin and hair while the new/healthy skin and hair grows in. Oral medication is very effective for ringworm and not prone to resistance like some bacterial infections, so I doubt it's getting worse. It's also a good sign if it's just the existing lesions that look worse; rather than there being new lesions. If new lesions are seen, then this would indicate that the treatment is not working and would require a recheck by your veterinarian. I hope that helps and Buttercup gets better soon.

The patches are not uncommon from ring worm and will grow back in with time. You will not hurt anything by brushing but ibwiukd not pull out any more hit. If it comes out with brushing then no big deal

There appears to be some good hair regrowth, but it could be infectious still. I've seen lesions that appear completely normal and still test positive for ringworm, so it is best to take her to the vet for testing. The test takes a few days, but is relatively inexpensive and is the best method we have for determining when to stop treatment. I hope that helps and all Juju recovers soon.

Yes, the medications you are using are appropriate. Ringworm can take months to resolve so just keep on with the treatment. Be sure when bathing with Malaseb you leave the shampoo on her coat for at least 5 minutes before rinsing. The shampoo needs contact time with the skin in order for it to work. Hope this helps. If the area is still glowing even if you have treated for 2 weeks, I still recommend continuing treatment and would state that Chloe does in fact still have ringworm. I have seen some animals needing treatment for 4-6 weeks with oral medication and topical. Sometimes scabs and dandruff can glow under the light and it can appear that the area is glowing when in fact it is just the scabbing or dandruff. If it is truly the skin lesion then I typically have clients treat for another 2 weeks and recheck again.
