My dog's ringworm is improving. Should I stop treatment or see vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am assuming Juju is on medications from your Vet for the ringworm. I wouldn't take the cone off until hair starts to regrow. I think it might be too soon. I highly recommend touching base with your Vet as well. If the ringworm was diagnoses off a fungal culture they may want to repeat the culture to be sure it is 100% gone. Ringworm can be very frustrating to treat and usually requires a lengthy treatment. Once the patches of hair loss decrease in size and hair begins to grow back in typically indicates that treatment is successful. If the lotion you are using does not help, I have used Malacetic Conditioning spray, which can be found online. This can be applied twice daily until resolved. I hope this helps! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Izzy has one of the most frustrating dermatologic issues we face with our pets. Fungi are notorious for taking a very long time to kill or at least have managed. Unfortunately, there are multiple factors that contribute to a dog getting ringworm, and part of it is inate susceptibility that Izzy has. Inflammation of the skin will make skin infections of any kind more likely, so that should be a priority to get under control. There are shampoos available with a prescription, so ask your vet about them. Also, on rare occasion, oral antifungal therapy is warranted. This is less than 5% of cases from my experience, but if it is widespread on her body, it could be necessary. As she is susceptible, using a topical anti-fungal shampoo would be beneficial to minimize chances of recurrence once Izzy's skin has cleared-up. The itching needs to be explored further because it is what leads to skin inflammation and thus a higher chance of having an infection. Without being able to examine her, it is difficult to say whether the ringworm is under control, so continue to follow up with your vet as it can take weeks to months for it to clear up completely. Hi there! For ringworm we often treat for 30 days, depending on the veterinarian's choice and how bad the infection is. You will probably not be able to get a prescription without seeing a new doctor unless you can get you're other doctor to fax a previous prescription. If they did not prescribe you anymore, your doctor may want to see if your puppy improves with little treatment. You will have to get ahold of the original prescription before you can do anything else unless you want to see another dr (probably ER on the weekends) to see if the doctor thinks you need more.

If you are giving oral medication as well then hopefully hair will stop Falling out soon. However, it can take a few weeks to really slow ringworm down, and then a few more weeks to really get rid of it. Ringworm can take up to 3 months to go away. I think this article will explain more. The reason I ask is because it actually looks more like mange lesions to me. If you are not seeing much improvement after another 7-10 days and your vet did not actually test for ringworm, then I suggest you have her back to your vet to talk about actually testing for ringworm and testing for mange to get this figured out.
