My rabbit has a white spot near its anus with dry blood. What is it?

Even though a picture of the wound itself would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). An immediate check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. It is best to have the one that is bleeding from the anus examined by a veterinarian. Without examining him myself it is very difficult to give you any advice. If you would like to post again with some photos we may be able to help you more.

Hello. Your picture seems to show an abscess. Is Marshmallow in with another rabbit, or exposed to another pet that could have bitten him? It is very difficult to bandage the back end of a pet, much less a rabbit, so continue to use your antiseptic until healed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Unfortunately i cannot see the from the pics as it appears to be out of focus. These red spots could be red mites but only a check up or possibly another pic could confirm this clinical suspicion to treat appropriately. Thanks for reaching out about Snow white and including a picture. Washing/wiping the area with a clean, warm, wet wash cloth and maybe a little soap. Don't apply anything such as a topical antibiotic, because if Snow white ingests it, could cause gastrointestinal upset. If the damaged area becomes infected or enlarges, seek a veterinarian. Hi and thank you for the question, This is not normal and usually happens when a rabbit cannot clean himself (e.g. due to obesity, spinal pain etc.) and/or because of diarrhea. I recommend that you have him checked. As to local care, It is best to wash the area well with water, possibly shave it and it may require systemic antibiotics if it is inflamed. Again, these things are best done by a vet. I don't recommend diaper cream. Regards
