My rabbit had a tick on its eyelid. What health risks are there?

First, the ectoparasites around the eyes appear to be stick-tight fleas and a once-a-,month topical medication called Revolution should work well. Your veterinarian should be able to prescribe even in lock down. Second, the lesion on the ear/face area needs to be shaved, gently cleaned with a warm wet washcloth and a mild soap. If continues to be crusty, a veterinarian is needed to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Check inside of the ear for crusts, this could be ear mites and the cause of the facial mass. Revolution should treat this well also. Lastly, rabbits need to be spayed as they have a very high incidence of uterine cancer. Good luck.

The best thing is to gently feel the lump and figure out how big it is ( for example, as big as a cherry pit, or measure it if you can. Write this down and then measure it again a week later. If it has grown, you should take your rabbit to a veterinarian as it could be a tumor or a cyst or an abscess. If it does not grow and does not ooze nor the skin starts to turn red, then I would not worry about it, and only show it to your vet the next time you take Albie in for an exam or vaccinations.

The most common reason for hair loss in rabbits is skin parasites like mites. If he only has one spot I would not be overly worried just now. Just monitor him and if you notice more spots showing up or he is scratching/itching then you need to get him to a vet for an exam.

The best flea / mite treatment and preventative in my opinion for rabbits Revolution, which is a prescription product marketed for cats and dogs. That's her "third eyelid". It protects and lubricates the eye. In times of stress or illness, it may become more pronounced. Her eyes do not appear red, cloudy nor is there discharge. If she is behaving normally, she is likely fine. Monitor for the above signs as well as lethargy, loss of appetite or rubbing at her face.
