My rabbit's testicles are big and low. Is this normal before neuter?

Thank you for your question about Luna, and thank you for the photos - they are very helpful. Luna's testicles are of a normal size for a rabbit. This species has very prominent testicles, and the sparse fur that is present on the surface of the scrotum often makes them look even larger. I cannot appreciate any abnormalities on the surfaces of either testicle with the photos that you have attached either. Rabbits do usually have pretty long testicles, and testicular cancer is very uncommon in rabbits. I typically don’t neuter them unless they are spraying urine and the owners want it to stop, or if they will be cohabiting with females. Thanks for reaching out about Kaju and including a photo. Some testicles are slower to descend than others so give it a few more weeks/months. After that, a retained testicle can be a problem, as if remains in the abdominal cavity can become neoplastic and will require surgical correction. As for deworming, it really depends on the parasite and the concentration load. Good luck.

Thank you for using Pet Coach, and for posting the picture. From the picture it appears that the scrotal incision may have opened up and their may be a large blood clot there. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to make sure that there is no infection and to See if the incision needs to be revised or not. Thanks for reaching out about Basil. If there is swelling around the genitals and he is already neutered, a veterinary visit is highly recommended as soon as possible. If he was castrated recently, there is a concern over an abscess or seroma in the scrotum or a hernia. A hernia could be a medical emergency, if intestinal tract has herniated. Monitor appetite, defecation and urination. Good luck.

Although elderly, if he is fit and well and testicular issues are confirmed then yes, castration would be recommended. You should contact your vet to discuss gabis options in light of previous and current issues

Yes. This is normal anatomy for a male rabbit. They can get pretty stinky though, so cleaning them occasionally if you start to notice a smell is a good idea. Just gently soak with warm water and cotton balls to clean. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
