Is it safe to neuter an 8-year-old rabbit with a swollen testicle?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 7 months old | 7.2 lbs

Is it dangerous to neuter a 8 and a half years old rabbit? I noticed one of my rabbit's testicles is bigger than the other (not much though, and he's acting normaly), and I'm afraid it may be cancer. Is it advisable to neuter a rabbit that old? He recently had a teeth surgery and reacted well to the anesthesia, should I have the precedure done to avoid any problems? Thanks.

Although elderly, if he is fit and well and testicular issues are confirmed then yes, castration would be recommended. You should contact your vet to discuss gabis options in light of previous and current issues
