My rabbit got spooked and is bleeding. Should I take him to the vet?

I would look them over carefully for any signs of injury and bleeding in case they were fighting. If you can't find anything significant, make sure that neither one is urinating blood as bladder stones are common in rabbits and this is the most common sign of this problem. If you find any wounds that seem deep, or if you think someone is peeing blood, he or she needs to see vet at your earilest convenience. Hopefully it was just a fluke!

it sounds like he has an infection so he should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can determine the severity of the injury to his eyes and prescribe medications to help. He may need an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to treat an infection.

As long as the bleeding has stopped you only need to monitor the area in the next few days to make sure Boma is not developing an infection, if it starts to swell or if it looks infected you will need to find a vet in order to get it treated.

Without a picture, my only recommendation for anything that is actively bleeding is to seek out a veterinarian right away. This is particularly true for small mammals such as rabbits as they do not have much blood to begin with. If it is possible that Chocolate could have been bitten by something on the penis, this can definitely become problematic. Often wounds to the penis can result in an inability to urinate, which is obviously an emergency. I would not wait on this one very long, unless the bleeding is well controlled and your rabbit is urinating normally. Hope this helps.

If it is just a superficial scratch and it appears that the bleeding already resolved, you may continue to monitor it. If at some point a discharge develops and it appears to be getting infected, have him examined then. You may clean the area with soapy water. However, if it seems deep, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is hard to know for sure without being able to see it though I hope this is helpful. It is best to have the one that is bleeding from the anus examined by a veterinarian. Without examining him myself it is very difficult to give you any advice. If you would like to post again with some photos we may be able to help you more.

If you believe that Boston Bunnelby may have been injured by his cage, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian. He/she can perform a full physical exam and look for evidence of soft tissue or skeletal injury and treat accordingly, if needed. If he is otherwise moving around as usual and acting normally (eating, drinking, urinating, defecating) normally, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!
