My rabbit's bottom is inflamed with bedding stuck. What should I do?

She has an infection. It may just be the external structures you can see or it may be coming from the inside (either a bladder infection or a uterine infection). If you have tried to breed her and she isn't getting pregnant then she may very well have an underlying uterine infection. I suggest you get her to a vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi and thank you for the question, This is not normal and usually happens when a rabbit cannot clean himself (e.g. due to obesity, spinal pain etc.) and/or because of diarrhea. I recommend that you have him checked. As to local care, It is best to wash the area well with water, possibly shave it and it may require systemic antibiotics if it is inflamed. Again, these things are best done by a vet. I don't recommend diaper cream. Regards

It may be inflammation and/or infection due to urine scalding. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits for diagnosis and treatment. You can use plain, unscented baby wipes or pet wipes to gently clean his abdominal area. Do not bathe him as it can be stressful and may complicate any underlying condition. Use the wipes and dry him thoroughly afterwards Keep him on clean, dry bedding or soft towels and change them frequently.

Thanks for reaching out about Snow white and including a picture. Washing/wiping the area with a clean, warm, wet wash cloth and maybe a little soap. Don't apply anything such as a topical antibiotic, because if Snow white ingests it, could cause gastrointestinal upset. If the damaged area becomes infected or enlarges, seek a veterinarian. Sorry to see what's going on with Ebony. If at all possible, I would say that you should have Ebony examined by a veterinarian. They should be able to shave some of the hair around the affected area to get a very good look at what exactly is happening, and to what extent the affected area is afflicted. Unspayed female rabbits are much more prone to the outer and inner portions of their genitals having disease processes. These can include superficial infections, abscesses, or disease processes caused by hormonal imbalances. Hope this helps.

Hello there! A red, irritated skin lesion is probably not an emergency unless Fluffy is lethargic or otherwise acting ill. I do recommend that he visits a vet to have it evaluated, as it may be a skin infection. This is a common location for dermatitis (skin inflammation and infection) as it is a warm fold that, if it encounters moisture, can be a breeding ground for microorganisms. The vet may take a small sample of skin cells to look at under the microscope, which will help determine how to treat his skin. In the meantime, keep the area clean and dry.
