Is it normal for my rabbit to eat lots of hay and drink lots of water?

If Bugsy is eating and drinking ok, and acting normally, and using his litter box normally, he is probably ok. If he is not eating well, or urinating blood, or drooling, he likely has something going on and needs to see a vet.

If the rabbit is eating and drinking and everything else is normal I would not be worried. It is very normal for them to have gut sounds. Rabbits should be eating hay (like for horses) as the main part of the diet so if you are not doing that, you need to start. That keeps their GI tract healthy and their teeth.

It's correct that fiber is very important for rabbits. This is because they have a digestive system that is made for a high-fiber diet and can get a great deal of nutrients from fiber. For this reason, it's actually best to feed a pelleted diet that is high in fiber like Oxbow. Fruits and vegetables should be considered treats and limited and no more than 10% of their diet. High quality hay (timothy or brome are good choices) should be offered all the time. Grass and dark leafy greens should also be offered regularly. There is a lot of information about how to feed a rabbit out there and it can be difficult to know what's correct and what's not. Chewing is a natural and essential behavior for rabbits to keep their constantly growing teeth worn down. Ensure he has permanent access to good quality fresh hay and also rabbit safe chewing blocks such as timber from apple trees or commercial chew toys etc, a feed ball which drops pellets as he rolls it can be very helpful. However, some bunnies may not tolerate large quantities of spinach as it is high in calcium and can sometimes cause formation of crystals in the bladder. This may cause increased urination. Increased urination may also be a sign of a bacterial infection in the bladder. If your bunnies seem to be lethargic or eating less or pooping less, I would get them checked out at the vet. They would recommend checking out a urine sample for crystals or bacteria. In the meantime, you can try cutting out the spinach at least temporarily, and ensure they get plenty of fresh water. You can also try soaking some of their veggies in water to increase their water intake. This will help to flush out any crystals in the bladder, if any. Commercial pellets should be offered at about 1/2 cup per day to an adult 2kg rabbit. With young rabbits (<6 months) there is no need to limit the pellets. A handful of leafy greens may be added 1-2 times daily. As to the urines, just keep the cage as clean as possible and replace the substrate when it gets wet. Regards
