My bunny has severe ear mites and won't eat. How much to treat?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 7 lbs

Ok so my pet bunny has ear mites and I got a answer already for another question I asked she said that since it’s so severe they’ll have to sedate him and give him a 14 day injection so I want to know how much will it cost to be prepared also he doesn’t want to eat as much

Poor Baby! I wish I could tell yo I exactly how much it will cost but since cost varies for different areas and different clinics, I would recommend you to call the vet you plan to use and ask them for an estimate for an exam, possible ear cytology if needed, sedation if needed and an ivermectin injection if it is ear mites. They should be able to give you a rough estimate over the phone but I would also ask them to give you a more exact estimate after the exam as sometimes treatment changes after the exam. Finally, if it is too expensive then I would ask if there are any other options that are a little cheaper. The vet may be able to give other options, but not always. I hope this helps!

My rabbit's ear is full of gunk. Is it ear mites? What should I do?

This is probably a severe case of ear mites. These are a small biting parasite that can be very aggressive in rabbits. It looks like your Jr your rabbit is going to need to have this ear professionally treated by your veterinarian. This can require some sedation to clean the ear because they are usually very uncomfortable. Your vet will then probably give an injection of a medication that kills mites. This injection is usually repeated every 10-14 days until the mites have all died. You will need to take Baby to your veterinarian as soon as you can.

My rabbit has ear stuff and head flicking. Can I treat it at home?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to an ear infection. How often you use these depends on which of the tabs you are referring to. I would check the product instructions and follow that. I recommend that you have Oreo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. However, for neurological signs to develop, the infection needs to be deep in the inner or middle ear. This commonly is a sequelae to a respiratory tract infection. My rabbit keeps shaking his head, but his ears look fine. Why?

Rabbits get ear mites commonly and it's very difficult to see all the way into a rabbit ear canal without the proper equipment. Schedule an exam with your rabbit vet to have his ears examined with an otoscope. He may need to be sedated for this, and your vet may want to do an ear cytology as well. I have used topical Revolution very successfully to treat rabbits in the past if this is his issue. Also, ear mites are very contagious between bunnies!
