Why is my rabbit drinking and peeing a lot with smelly urine?

However, some bunnies may not tolerate large quantities of spinach as it is high in calcium and can sometimes cause formation of crystals in the bladder. This may cause increased urination. Increased urination may also be a sign of a bacterial infection in the bladder. If your bunnies seem to be lethargic or eating less or pooping less, I would get them checked out at the vet. They would recommend checking out a urine sample for crystals or bacteria. In the meantime, you can try cutting out the spinach at least temporarily, and ensure they get plenty of fresh water. You can also try soaking some of their veggies in water to increase their water intake. This will help to flush out any crystals in the bladder, if any. A sterile urine sample should be collected and submitted for urinalysis and culture. This will diagnose urinary tract infection, identify the responsible organism and determine the best antibiotic to use in treatment. Check the teeth for malocclusion or overgrowth. It is of critical importance to get Lilly eating again. Supportive care (subcutaneous fluids, force feeding, etc) should be continued. Always have timothy hay or similar grasses available. An abdominal x-rays should be considered to diagnose foreign body, large hair balls or tumors in the abdomen. A hairball paste may aid in passage of any hairballs. If you don't have experience force feeding, have your veterinarian show you how. If available, Oxbow Critical Care is an excellent formula to feed sick or injured rabbits.

Not eating the nigh feces in rabbits can become a problem, it is usually happening when the rabbit is either overweight or ill. excessive drinking is usually a sign of disease as well, most commonly kidney failure or diabetes, you will need to take Mr sniffles to the vet in order to have a blood test done ASAP.

I am sorry to hear about your problem with Lupin (love the name!). If he had previously been using a litterbox well and out of the blue started urinating all over then I would be concerned we could have a medical issue like an infection or kidney problems and would recommend a visit to the vet. If Bugsy is eating and drinking ok, and acting normally, and using his litter box normally, he is probably ok. If he is not eating well, or urinating blood, or drooling, he likely has something going on and needs to see a vet.

These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. These signs must be checked as soon as possible as urinary tract infection can be dangerous in rabbits as can lead to stress and degenerate to more systemic signs. It is possible your bunny has a urinary tract infection (red urine and urinary accidents can both be seen with this condition). Another possibility would be a bladder stone or tumor. Your bunny should see a veterinarian to check her urine, and start an antibiotic if needed or have an x-ray if no sign of infection is seen in the urine.
