My rabbit doe won't mate or get pregnant. What are her belly lumps?

We don't normally have parasites that get large enough to palpate/feel through the stomach or feel them move, so if the lump itself is moving I would be inclined to suspect pregnancy. If you take your bunny to a vet, they may be able to palpate the abdomen and determine if she is pregnant.

Unlike cats and dogs, rabbits do not "go into heat" or have estrus cycles. When a female rabbit (doe) is mated by a male rabbit (buck), she will ovulate, or release eggs. Does reach sexual maturity at 6-8 months. Larger breeds may mature later. Bucks are mature at 6 months. Again, larger breeds will mature later. If a doe is not ready to mate, she will squeal, run or fight with interested bucks. When ready, she will be very receptive to any advance by an interested buck. You can keep up to 10 does with one buck. He can mate daily but that is not recommended, so the most he should be bred is 2-3 times per week. You will need to separate him out from the does once his job is complete. Gestation is about 1 month.

With pseudopregnancy she can nest build, have mammary development and vulvar engorgement and lactate, so not easy to tell. A veterinarian should be able to ultrasound, but you will know in a short time either way as gestation is less that a month. Good luck.

It sounds like she is not cut out to be a mom. These non-vialbe pups may be due to a chronic viral infection or an inherent problem with her uterus. Regardless, I suggest you either keep her from getting pregnant again by not housing her with any males or have her spayed. That is the only way to keep this from happening again.

So male rabbits cannot be spayed, they can be castrated. Are you 100% that they are all done, and that you dont have a female who is actually a male? One of these must be the case. You could ask the vet to spay her whilst pregnant, it is more risky though. You could just wait until the rabbits are born and have them euthanized.

They are quite cute! The best way to determine pregnancy in a rabbit is via a physical exam. Other symptoms include weight gain, nesting, fur pulling or aggressive behavior. Gestation is short, about 4 weeks. They can mate as soon as a few days after kindling (giving birth), so it would be recommended to separate them until you can determine genders and pregnancy status. Hello. I am sorry for such a long wait for an answer, but something is really amiss with your bunnies. To have obvious muscle loss along with an expanding belly indicates some disease process is ongoing. The swelling in the belly can be due to fluid buildup or enlargement of some of the abdominal orgas, called organomegaly. This is really something that requires a hands on exam & possibly some diagnostic tests run as well as a good overview of your husbandry practices.
