Thanks for reaching out about Donya. Some does might not reach sexual maturity until 6 months of age. But there could also be something wrong with either the male or the female resulting in infertility of either. Just because the male breeds, does not mean he is fertile. Determination at this point would require a veterinary visit and likely diagnostic testing. The palpable masses in the abdomen could be babies but also fecal material. Good luck.

Lumps and bump can certainly be scary, especially since we usually don't have any idea what they are. As long as it is not effective Poppy's ability to urinate and defecate, and as long as she is eating / drinking / having a good energy level, there is not absolute rush to have her seen. However, I would definitely get her to the vet to have that area examined as soon as it is financially feasible to do so. It is in an area of the body where if the size increases, the mass could certain become problematic. It is best to deal with it sooner than later. If the area starts to grown in size by even 10%, I would not wait until the insurance kicks in and just get her somewhere to be examined. While I realize this isn't ideal, rabbits are very sensitive to changes in their health and have the ability to crash quickly if things are not hastily dealt with. Thank you for your question. If this bump is only on one side of the abdomen I would be concerned about a tumor or an abscess (pocket of infection). With a pregnancy we would expect a symmetrical swelling of the belly. I would recommend your friend take the mouse to a vet who sees pocket pets for an examination to better determine the cause of the enlargement.

The best thing is to gently feel the lump and figure out how big it is ( for example, as big as a cherry pit, or measure it if you can. Write this down and then measure it again a week later. If it has grown, you should take your rabbit to a veterinarian as it could be a tumor or a cyst or an abscess. If it does not grow and does not ooze nor the skin starts to turn red, then I would not worry about it, and only show it to your vet the next time you take Albie in for an exam or vaccinations.

Thanks for reaching out about Lola. Late in the pregnancy you might be able to palpate fetuses, but should be careful not to damage them. With pseudopregnancy she can nest build, have mammary development and vulvar engorgement and lactate, so not easy to tell. A veterinarian should be able to ultrasound, but you will know in a short time either way as gestation is less that a month. Good luck.

This could be an abscess, a hernia or a tumor. Unfortunately tumors are common in rats, so if this started small and then grew to this size over time, it is likely a tumor. A tumor in this area is relatively easy to remove if you don't let it get too big, as the surgeon needs enough healthy skin to close the wound again after surgery. A hernia can be easily repaired surgically. You can check whether it is a hernia by gently pressing on the lump and if you can make it disappear into the abdomen, it is a hernia. An abscess will need to be lanced and your rat will need antibiotics. I suggest you schedule an appointment with a veterinarian soon.
