My rabbit's back is twitching. What can I do to help without a vet?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Mocha might be having seizures. This can occur due to many different causes including infections, inflammation, tumors, and other causes. If Mocha is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing normally right now, you can monitor Mocha for now. I would recommend however to have Mocha seen by a rabbit veterinarian as soon as you are able to get an appointment. I would also recommend trying to get one of these episodes on tape if you can, so if you see it happening try to record it. Best of luck with Mocha.

As long as the twitching is mild and it is not waking Bugsy up from sleep then I would not be too concerned about it. It does sound like a seizure and this can be a very serious condition in rabbits. There is nothing you can do at home except to keep him in a calm, quiet, dark area. I would remove anything from the cage that could injure him. Don't handle him as to minimize stress. Just get him to a vet as soon as you can and be sure it is a vet that is used to treating rabbits. So sorry that Mittens is having this problem. It sounds like he could be in pain so he should be examined by a vet determine the cause. He could have back pain, abdominal pain, an infection, etc. Your vet can do a physical examination to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat, depending on the cause. I recommend you bring both the mother bunny and the remaining live bunnies to a vet right away to try to see if there is something you can do for the other two bunnies. I'm not sure why you can't get Bunbun to a vet, but this is a medical emergency if he broke his back. He has to see a vet now, this cannot be treated at home. Please find a way to take him into a vet immediately.

Sorry to hear that Luna is having some issues. Sometimes in rabbits, symptoms that appear to be of a neurologic origin can actually have to do with problems with the ears. I would recommend having her ears thoroughly examined and cleaned if necessary. Another possibility is if Luna has been affected by the micro E. Cuniculi. This is a protozoal organism that can affected multiple bodily systems, one of which is neurologic. The treatment for this condition is typically antibiotics, dewormers, and anti-inflammatories. These would be my top two suspicions, so I would contact a vet who is familiar with rabbits and have her examined some time soon.
