Why isn't my new hamster pooping or peeing much? Is it normal?

This usually isn't normal. He could have a urinary tract infection, diabetes or other type of problem. I would have your vet take a look at him. Since he is so small I want to make sure he isn't going to become dehydrated. If something is causing him to drink a lot then chances are his body isn't able to keep up with his hydration. Your vet will be able to do an exam, assess hduration, and do blood work if needed. I hope this helps!

She is also stressed by the change in habitat and abnormal activity. Try to minimize handling for the next few days, especially during the day time when she should be asleep. It sounds like Brizzo may be having diarrhea - which can be caused by intestinal parasites, or bacterial and viral infections. I recommend having Brizzo seen by a vet to determine what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment. While Brizzo is older, hamsters can live up to 2-3 years, and would benefit from treatment. As long as Sandy is still eating and drinking normally I would not be too concerned. If she stops either of these behaviors then I would recommend taking her to the veterinarian to be evaluated. I think it is very likely that she is stressed because of her new cage/environment. Continue to try and interact with her as you normally do, offer her her favorite treats and toys to help her feel more comfortable. Also, if you got a new substrate (bedding) to go with the new cage this could explain why you are smelling her urine and feces more strongly. If Sandy stops eating, becomes lethargic, or starts having diarrhea then I would recommend taking her in to see your vet.
