Are nail polish fumes harmful to pet mice? Will my mice be okay?

In a normal sized room with normal ventilation, nail polish fumes are not likely to be harmful. Do always make sure any strong smelling products are in a well ventilated space or that Millie is removed from the room. Mice are fastidious groomers, & will consume anything left on their bodies. You must clean the cage & replace any bedding that is soiled immediately to control odors. If the cage is clean, the mice will not smell too bad. If the cage granules indicate they can be used with mice, then by all means use it. Otherwise, use a rodent friendly substrate to keep your mice happy & healthy. Take care.

Human nail polish remover is toxic to dogs, both from ingestion and the smell. There are nail polish removers for dogs that are supposed to be safer for them, and you can find them online or in a pet store. If you do use a human nail polish remover, remove the polish in a well ventilated area, possibly outside. Put a very small amount on a cotton ball, and remove the polish off the nails of one paw. Keep Mimi's head and nose away from the area, so you may need a friend to hold her head away. Once the polish is off that paw, immediately wash the paw in dog shampoo and warm water before moving into the next paw. Always be sure that if you future nail painting on her nails, only use nail polishes designed for dogs, not for humans. Good luck, I hope this helps!

If Miracle is away from the area that was painted and being kept in a well-ventilated area, I wouldn't be too concerned. Once the painted rooms have aired out some, she should be OK to go back in there. If you notice any issues such as respiratory distress, coughing, sneezing, etc, then moving her back to ventilation is best.

The best thing to do is wipe away as much as you can with a dry cloth. It's likely that some will still be left on the pad, but this is not a concern for any toxic effects. Even if Theo happens to lick a little of the dried nail polish, this would not be enough to be toxic.
