My hamster might have swallowed metal. What should I do now?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 28 days old

I think my hamster has eaten two metal keyring hoops from a rope ladder toy in her cage. We have checked the whole cage and can't find them. She seems fine in herself, eating, drinking and running in her ball but we're really worried in case she has swallowed them :(

Hopefully Remi did not eat anything and the fact she is acting normally is a good sign, but if you would like to put your mind at rest, you could take her to the vet for an X-ray. Metal object can be seen clearly on radiographs. Good luck and please post again on the forum or request a consultation if you would like to discuss it any further.
