My hamster has a neck wound from food, but acts normal. Help!

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male

My daughter bought a hamster from Petco 3 months ago. She called me last night because she saw something on his neck. She picked him up and noticed something sticking out of his neck. She pulled it out and it was a piece of his food. He now has a hole in his neck. I’ve been googling this and haven’t found anything. He is still acting normal. Eating, drinking and playing.

I really have no answer for you on this especially since I haven’t seen Ferris myself. Sounds like a freak accident. If the wound isn’t that deep and it’s not bleeding I would just leave it alone honestly. It should heal just fine on it’s own. Sometimes doing too much treatment for something minor stresses them out more than it’s worth. If you’d like to post again with a picture of the wound then maybe we can help you better.
