My hamster is on its back, screeching. Is it a seizure, then runs?

It sounds like Red may be having seizures. Make sure he is eating and drinking normally. If he continues to do this then I would recommend to contact your vet for an exam to ensure there is nothing wrong that could be causing the seizure like low glucose, an infection, diabetes, and more.

I have no idea why he would vocalize in that way unless he was scared or injured. Any place he could have gotten a leg stuck? He may not have an external injury but that incident could have scared him. As for dreaming, no one knows if they do but, to my knowledge, that has not been documented. I suggest you just monitor him closely to see if it happens again. If it does, you should consider taking him to a vet for an exam.

Based on what you are describing it does sound as if Juggie is having some seizure like activity. The cause of the seizure could be from something metabolic (like a too high or too low blood sugar) or he could have a primary neurological disorder. You would need to take Juggie to the vet to determine what is going on and to get some medication to stop the seizures. Keep in mind also that the life span of a hamster is only about 2 years so, if this is close to Juggie’s age, a terminal disease process may be more likely. I hope this helps. If you heard a sound in the middle of the night just a single time, and nothing else has ever happened before, I don't think there is anything to worry about just yet. If this happens again, you might want to consider setting up a camera or something while you are sleeping so you can review exactly what is happening. For now, I think you should operate under the assumption that either there was some dream activity, or Pippy maybe just bumped himself on something causing some discomfort. Hope this helps!

Thanks for reaching out about your hamster. Vocalization during sleeping could be a sign of respiratory disease that could be causing difficulty berthing. Monitor appetite and water intake, but a veterinary visit is recommended. Hamsters ask slightly prone to heart disease also, which can cause respiratory problems. You may have thought your hamster died but if it is alive today it did not pass away. It may have had a seizure or passed out. I would recommend taking it to the vet to be checked out because if something is going on your vet may be able to treat it. The good news is that you have your hamster back!
