My Syrian hamster screamed suddenly. Is this normal or concerning?

My syrian hamster was just sleeping, i was in my bed watching a show on low volume, when my hamster just started screaming, i don’t know if he was scared or angry i don’t know. But after he stopped screaming he acted just fine, i picked him up to check him over and he is just fine. His heart was racing though. Did he have a bad dream or is it something i should be worried about? He lives in a diy hamster bin (it’s big for a hamster, wanted to give him tons of room to roam). He’s also about 2y/o.

I have no idea why he would vocalize in that way unless he was scared or injured. Any place he could have gotten a leg stuck? He may not have an external injury but that incident could have scared him. As for dreaming, no one knows if they do but, to my knowledge, that has not been documented. I suggest you just monitor him closely to see if it happens again. If it does, you should consider taking him to a vet for an exam.

    She might have stuck one of her feet in the cage or maybe a wheel if she has one, it could be due to a fall, it's very hard to know. if she is fine now then i wouldn't worry about it but if she seems lethargic or not herself you should take her to the vet to get ti checked.

Why did my hamster screech loudly at night then seem fine?
If you heard a sound in the middle of the night just a single time, and nothing else has ever happened before, I don't think there is anything to worry about just yet. If this happens again, you might want to consider setting up a camera or something while you are sleeping so you can review exactly what is happening. For now, I think you should operate under the assumption that either there was some dream activity, or Pippy maybe just bumped himself on something causing some discomfort. Hope this helps!

Why is my hamster screaming and moving strangely while sleeping?
Thanks for reaching out about your hamster. Vocalization during sleeping could be a sign of respiratory disease that could be causing difficulty berthing. Monitor appetite and water intake, but a veterinary visit is recommended. Hamsters ask slightly prone to heart disease also, which can cause respiratory problems. Supplying supplemental heat might help. Good luck.

My hamster is on its back, screeching. Is it a seizure, then runs?
Poor Baby! If he was having a seizure, they can have a "post-ictal" phase where they are no longer convulsing but are still disoriented. If this is the first time he has ever had a seizure, I would recommend having a vet take a look at him to ensure there isn't a medical reason for why he could have started seizuring. It sounds like Red may be having seizures. Make sure he is eating and drinking normally. If he continues to do this then I would recommend to contact your vet for an exam to ensure there is nothing wrong that could be causing the seizure like low glucose, an infection, diabetes, and more.

My senior hamster is squeaking loudly. Is it old age or illness?
I’m sorry to hear about this with your hamster. As you mentioned, 2 is quite old for a hamster so we have to take that into consideration. His increased vocalizations are likely due to discomfort, probably from his illness. I would recommend taking him back to your veterinarian for a recheck just to make sure nothing else is going on. My dwarf hamster squeaks in her sleep. Is it a respiratory issue?
It would be hard to say without an exam, however respiratory issues usually result in symptoms such as raspy breathing, coughing, sneezing, wheezing and changes in behavior including loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. Squeaking on its own doesn't really indicate this, however if you are concerned, or Bolletje is showing symptoms listed above, a vet visit is best. Until you can get her to your vet, keeping her warm and eating and drinking may help, but if symptoms worsen, seeking care sooner is needed.
