My hamster looked dead but is now alive. Why did this happen?

Poor Baby! If he was having a seizure, they can have a "post-ictal" phase where they are no longer convulsing but are still disoriented. If this is the first time he has ever had a seizure, I would recommend having a vet take a look at him to ensure there isn't a medical reason for why he could have started seizuring. Thanks for reaching out about Biscuit. By the description, he might have had a seizure or cardiac event. Dilated cardiomyopathy is relatively common in hamsters. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and listen to the heart for any arrhythmia or murmur. Not all heart disease is detectable via a stethoscope, therefore radiographs might be recommended to visualize heart size. This is not curable but could be managed with medications if diagnosed. Without seeing Bagel in person, I can't say if she's dead or not. Watch her very closely, if she is hibernating, she should take at least one or two breaths a minute. I'd also have her checked out by a vet.

Oh no, I'm so sorry you don't know what's going on with Humphrey! Rigor mortis can take up to six hours to begin after death, and it can take up to 12 hours to affect the whole body. Check for signs of breathing, as if he's hibernating he will still be breathing. If he's not breathing, then he unfortunately has passed. The best way to know for sure is take him into the vet now. The vet can diagnose if Humphrey is hibernating or has passed.

Hamsters do hibernate, but typically it occurs when the temperature drops below 65F. Hamsters live in average 18 months to 2.5 years, so unfortunately it could be that Viker is getting old and reaching the end of his life. It sounds like Red may be having seizures. Make sure he is eating and drinking normally. If he continues to do this then I would recommend to contact your vet for an exam to ensure there is nothing wrong that could be causing the seizure like low glucose, an infection, diabetes, and more.
