My hamster has a strange mark on his skin. Should I be worried?

I went to take my hamster out his cage for a while and sat him on my chest as i was touching his fur i noticed this on his skin And i am not sure what it is and if i should be worried about it

That looks like a wound of some type. Maybe from another hamster or a toy or bar in the cage?
There could also be a small mass or cyst that's open.
Keep that area clean and have a vet check that out in case he needs antibiotics.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is likely that your veterinarian was referring to a keratin-filled cyst. Keratin is a molecule that makes up skin and nails, so accumulations of it can form firm, callous-like lumps. It is OK that it has fallen off. Just make sure the area does not appear to continue to bleed or cause your hamster irritation - i.e. he tries to scratch or bite at it. I hope this is helpful! Thanks for reaching out. Could this be a bite wound from the other hamster? The dark skin is probably necrotic (dead) dermis. It could be an abscess. Infections should be treated with systemic antibiotics and possible anti-inflammatories/analgesia, as it could be painful. My hamster has a small scrape on back, acting normal. What should I do?

It could be Glacier injured himself in his cage. I would gently clean his wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.

It looks like roddy has a small scratch on the back. At this time I would recommend monitoring it from home. If you notice any discharge, smell or redness I would recommend taking him to a vet to have it examined. I hope that helps

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Bear may have a fungal infection, fur or skin mites, or a skin infection. Most of these conditions are very itchy, and some hamsters may actually scratch so much that they draw blood. This can lead to further infection as the skin barrier is compromised. I recommend having Bear looked at by a vet as soon as possible to determine the cause of his skin condition and begin the appropriate treatment. You can carefully trim Bear's nails in the meantime to prevent him from causing further trauma. I hope this helps!

What is this small dot on my hamster's paw? Should I be worried?

This may be a small area of infection on your hamster’s foot or could be something like feces or a food particle that has gotten stuck there. I would recommend taking your hamster out and trying to clean the area with a warm, wet cloth and see if it goes away. If not, keep a close eye on it. If the spot becomes larger, the foot becomes swollen, or your hamster stops wanting to eat, you should take her in to be examined by a veterinarian. I hope this helps.
