Why is there goop on my hamster's cage after cleaning? Is she sick?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I cleaned my hamster’s cage yesterday but this morning I found something on the side of her cage. I have no idea what it is but I know it came from her since I wiped the sides of the cage clean yesterday. What could it be? Is she sick?

It's possible Daisy could have sneezed or coughed up some water since it is by her water bottle. I would clean the area and watch her for any signs of illness, and if the sneezing continues, you find more goop, or you see any discharge from her, schedule a vet visit.
