My hamster's eye is shut with pus and her bottom is wet. What's wrong?

Hi, This could either be coming from her digestive system (i.e. diarrhea ) or from reproductive system (uterus and vagina). This needs to be diagnosed correctly. One option is that she has a pyometra (infection of the uterus). In this case she would need surgery same as done with larger animals. In any case, you need to take her to the vet ASAP. Regards

If it doesn't clear up on its own after a day or so, seems to worsen, or the crusting continues or worsens, it would be best to have it examined by a vet in person to rule out any injuries or infections in the eye that could be causing it.

I am sorry that this is happening to Junie B. I would be concerned about the possibility of an eye injury, and infection, a tooth root abscess, or even a tumor could cause these symptoms. I would highly recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. In the meantime I would recommend that you use a warm water compress to soak the eye once or twice a day. She could be suffering from an eye infection although many hamster in generally bad health condition can also appear to have an eye problem when it is in fact a generalized disease (such as cancer). i would recommend taking her to the vet ASAP in order to have her checked and treated.
