My ferret hurt his eye. Is there safe pain relief until the vet?

Clindamycin can be used but eye status and actual injury requires a veterinary assessment as if eye is perforated there may be contraindications. Your ferret may have conjunctivitis or a corneal ulcer (a scrape on the outer most surface of the eye). I would recommend taking him in to see your vet so his eye can be evaluated. He will likely need some eye medication, like an antibiotic, to help get it under control.

I'm sorry Baby isn't doing well! Unfortunately there is nothing you can give him OTC. Rabbits are very sensitive to medications, and giving him a human one that isn't prescribed by a vet can be fatal. I would keep putting the warm wash cloth on his eye and get him into a vet asap. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. This could be edema in her eye. I would definitely have your vet take another look at it as soon as your can to ensure it is improving and not getting worse. Your vet may need to change the antibiotics ointment or add in additional meds if it isn't healing. It could also be a scar and the vet may just have you continue the current meds. Poor Fuzzy! I'm glad that you found him! I recommend having him seen by a vet in case the wounds are infected or painful - your vet will be able to prescribe antibiotics and pain medication. In the meantime, you can apply SSD (silver sulfadiazene) ointment several times per day to the areas. You should also use soft, non-scratchy bedding until the wounds heal to prevent further trauma. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Finn! When it comes to eyes it is best to have the pet seen as soon as possible. I do not recommend starting any medications without an exam first. The only thin I recommend you do is to out an E-collar on to prevent Finn from rubbing his eye and causing further harm. You can warm compress the eye twice daily. Be sure you can tolerate the temperature first before putting it on his eye. I hope this helps and I wish Finn the very best!

Poor Gannan! It would be great if at a bare minimum you could get some pain medication on board for him. Hopefully your vet will dispense an anti-inflammatory or opiate pain medication to you so that you can treat his pain during this tough time. There are very inexpensive options out there for pain meds and this is what I suggest to people who don't have a lot of money to spend or who don't believe in euthanasia.
