Accidentally grabbed my bunny by the chest skin. What should I do?

1) Never ever let this person near your bunny again! 2) if your bunny eats, drinks, hops around without any signs of discomfort, then he likely is ok. 3) Should he have a swelling around or on the neck, walk or hop funny or otherwise appear "off", he needs to be seen by a veterinarian. This would indicate some injury or at least pain and your vet can prescribe pain medicine. 4) Nobody but you and a veterinarian is allowed to pick up your bunny!

I recommend moving slowly with Bun Bun to let her realize that you are not a threat. You should start by petting her first between the ears and then gradually moving towards her neck and back. It may take some time for her to trust you enough to let you pick her up. Unfortunately, some rabbits never like being lifted, so you should be careful to support her back end to prevent her from hurting her back. I hope this helps!

He would likely struggle or flee if he didn't want to be picked up. He may simply be grunting when you place a hand under his belly. Support his rear end his chest when lifting him. Prevent him from kicking his back legs out which could injure his back/spine.

Hello there! A red, irritated skin lesion is probably not an emergency unless Fluffy is lethargic or otherwise acting ill. I do recommend that he visits a vet to have it evaluated, as it may be a skin infection. This is a common location for dermatitis (skin inflammation and infection) as it is a warm fold that, if it encounters moisture, can be a breeding ground for microorganisms. The vet may take a small sample of skin cells to look at under the microscope, which will help determine how to treat his skin. In the meantime, keep the area clean and dry. If you believe that Boston Bunnelby may have been injured by his cage, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian. He/she can perform a full physical exam and look for evidence of soft tissue or skeletal injury and treat accordingly, if needed. If he is otherwise moving around as usual and acting normally (eating, drinking, urinating, defecating) normally, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!

A photo may better help us evaluate Lucy. Rabbits have very thin skin and it is easy for them to get what is called a "degloving" injury where the skin tears and pulls away exposing the underlying tissue. If this is the case, and the skin itself is ripped open, then Lucy needs and exam at a veterinarian for wound care.

Thanks for reaching out about Snow white and including a picture. Washing/wiping the area with a clean, warm, wet wash cloth and maybe a little soap. Don't apply anything such as a topical antibiotic, because if Snow white ingests it, could cause gastrointestinal upset. If the damaged area becomes infected or enlarges, seek a veterinarian.
