My rabbit bites and scratches when I pick her up. How do I stop it?

my rabbit hates me, she doesnt let me pick her up when i need to, she just runs away wagging her tail, and when i pick her up she scratches me sometimes nips me. how can i stop her without spaying her

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is important to remember that rabbits are naturally a prey species, so they are pretty timid and can be defensive. I recommend moving slowly with Bun Bun to let her realize that you are not a threat. You should start by petting her first between the ears and then gradually moving towards her neck and back. It may take some time for her to trust you enough to let you pick her up. Unfortunately, some rabbits never like being lifted, so you should be careful to support her back end to prevent her from hurting her back. I hope this helps!
