He is having issues because you are not feeding him the appropriate diet. Drinking cow's milk is not advised. Puppy milk replacer is best. Hi there! While diarrhea in new gerbils is not entirely unusual (as stress and food changes can cause soft stool), I am concerned about the combination of continued diarrhea and the green coloration. Unless you have been feeding Peach a large amount of green-colored food, green coloration usually indicates a large amount of bile released in the intestines, and this can indicate a disease process. A common diarrheal disease of Gerbils is called Tyzzer's disease, and it can cause fatal dehydration if not treated. I'm glad to hear that Peach is still eating, drinking, and acting normal, but if the diarrhea continues or if his attitude changes, I strongly suggest taking him to the vet as he may require antibiotic treatment and fluid replacement therapy. This condition may also be contagious, so keep a close eye on the other gerbils for similar symptoms. Discoloration of the faeces can be due to something that has been eaten, or a medical issue. Redness could be caused by eating carrots etc or medically it could be due to bleeding. If it seems like blood it is likely the squirrel has gastroenteritis or has injured itself.

It could be due to the change in diet. If he otherwise seems fine than continue with the milk replacer and monitor him. Have him examined by a vet if you have any concerns. He will need to be dewormed with a broad spectrum dewormer and vaccinated once he is old enough.

One mild concern would be a condition call chlamydophilosis, which can also be communicable to other birds and people. A veterinary visit is recommended anyways for any new acquisitions, and this disease should be tested. Monitor for now but see a veterinarian if the condition persists. Good luck.
