My yellow-bellied slider clicks jaw when basking. Is this normal?

Turtles will bask in a variety of positions to maximize heat and UVB absorption. If she is behaving normally otherwise, there is likely no cause for concern. Monitor for lethargy, difficulty breathing, "gaping" (opening and closing mouth), blowing bubbles or discharge from the nose or mouth, decreased appetite or lopsided swimming. See your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian if any of these symptoms develop.

This could be very normal for him as long as he is still eating normally! If he isn’t eating then I would have your vet look at him. Thanks for including the pictures. I would be concerned that the shell discoloration on the plastron (lower shell) is a clinical sign of an infection or bruising. On one picture, there appears to be several areas where the shell is discolored (grayish). If it appears green to you, see if you can scratch it free with your fingernail, it could be algae. Algae build up on the shell is often a sign of water quality issues. If the discoloration seems to be deeper, it might be an infection and painful, and why he tried to bite. If this is the case, a visit to a reptile veterinarian is recommended.

As long as he is active, has no discharge from the eyes or nose and is not wheezing or gaping, there is no cause for concern. Consider decreasing the depth of the water to no deeper than twice Franklin's length though.

If she seems bright and healthy I would not worry about this too much. Quite often turtles choose to spend most time in the water. Make sure there is no reason that she a is put off the dock, for example difficult to access, excessively lit or heated, cleanliness etc. If there is no husbandry reason it is simply her choice.

Some birds will click or grind their beaks when they are settling down for the night or if they are comfortable. You can monitor for decreased appetite, weight loss or lethargy. These symptoms would indicate illness or injury. An exam with your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet would be recommended if Ocke develops any of these symptoms.

The rubbing is done to aid in shedding scutes. The digging and pushing may also be attempts to aid shedding. Inspect the shell for soft spots, pitting or fungus. Confirm proper environmental conditions (water quality/temp, ambient/basking temps, dry dock, UVB lighting) as well as proper nutrition.
