The pieces could be bits of scutes that Micha has ingested. A turtle may eat scutes that have been shed, however this is not recommended. If it isn't scutes, it could be pieces off of tank furniture. Keep an eye on her for lethargy, loss of appetite or abnormal defecation. You may need to have her seen by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles if the situation persists or worsens.

Looks like ulcerative shell disease which is often called SCUD or 'shell rot'. It comes in two primary forms. The dry form is often associated with a fungal infection and the wet form is often associated with gram negative bacteria (and usually develops after an injury to the shell). This looks to be the dry form. Treatment consists of cleaning the area with a diluted Betadine solution (1 part betadine to 10 parts water). Put it on the affected areas, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. I would do this twice a day. Also dry docking for 4-8 hours a day is strongly recommended. Go over all your husbandry carefully - ie: water quality/chemistry, lighting, diet, etc. as usually this is a husbandry issue. If the lesions progress or Shelby becomes lethargic, a veterinary visit and probably antibiotics are recommended. By the images, it doesn't appear to be shell rot. This cannot be determined definitively though without a physical exam. The will shed skin from time to time, so this could be what is happening. Hard water deposits may also change shell color as will age. Maintain pristine water quality, provide ample UVB lighting and feed a balanced diet. All these will promote shell health. Hello! What a cute turtle! You are a lucky pet sitter! I'm not certain if you were referring to the top shell (the yellow color or the green color) or the bottom shell... So I will ease your fears and just say that Pikachu looks very normal. The green stuff on the top shell appears to be algae. Not a big deal unless the tank water is completely green.
