My outdoor pet soaks in its water bowl. Is this safe in hot weather?

That is hot! Chlorinated pool water can cause an over drying of the skin. A baby pool full of tap water that is safe to drink is less likely to cause dry skin and is fine for the dogs to get in. Not only is soaking safe, it is recommended to maintain hydration. You don't need to worry about wiping him off or drying him. He will dry on his own. Place the food on a flat surface or shallow bowl near the warm side, not under the heat lamp. He will eat when he is hungry. The white "glob" is probable stool. Clean it up every day or so to keep the cage clean.

I would only place a few ice cubes in the bowl so that your pet doesn’t get a brain freeze type headache. Otherwise it should be fine. Just also keep in mind that keeping your pet in the shade (if left outside), leaving inside of temperatures are above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and providing fans are more effective methods of cooling off your pet. The fact that you are asking the question demonstrates that you are not being neglectful, so no judgement here. Temperatures exceeding 100F can be dangerous for them, but it definitely depends of Loki's ability to hide in cool areas. If the enclosure allows for good airflow and the hiding places are cool (usually need to be somewhat underground and covered very well, then it would be fine to keep him in the outside enclosure. I would put a thermometer in the hiding places to see if the temp gets below 100F during these really hot days. If they don't get cool enough, then you may consider designing some cooler places to hide, or keeping him inside during the day when temps are above 100. I hope that helps and all is well with Loki.

Hi, Yes this could be normal. Please check him for mites (little parasites that may look like little red dots moving around). If you cannot see many, and assuming that Pie is eating well and shedding regularly there is no cause for concern.

Hello. Lewis should always have a bowl of clean water available. The amount of humidity contributed by a bowl of water is negligible if the remainder of the enclosure is appropriate. Bearded dragons must stay hydrated or they are at risk for kidney disease and gout. If the enclosure is large enough, provide a bowl that Lewis can get his whole body into, or make sure to soak him for 15-20 minutes several times a week. He is a brachycephalic breed which means that he has a short snout and upper airway that is not adapt to being in hot climates for long periods of time. Therefore he is more at risk to having heat stroke than other breeds. I would recommend not leaving him outside for more than 30 mins- 1 hr at a time, even with shade, and definitely not to leave him out without direct supervision.
