My frog has a broken foot and lost toes. Can I give him antibiotics?

It is difficult to determine a leg injury with these photos. Fractured legs rarely heal in a aquarium/terrarium environment due to the animals movements usually does not allow stabilization of the fracture site. Also, splinting the limbs is near impossible for the same reason. If you think this frog has a fracture, it probably needs to see a veterinarian, especially before it gets worse (such as an open fracture with bone exposed). I have amputated several frog/toad limbs in my day and most do well and have good quality of life, although tougher time catching prey. Might have to feed via forceps. Good luck.

Unfortunately for this type of injury there is no home treatment you can do. Hopefully the jaw will just heal on it's own. You just need to make sure he is eating and if not, you may need to force feed some Critical Care diet like this one: ( https://emeraid.com/emeraid-carnivore/ ) Be sure his "normal" diet is 100% correct and that you are using supplements. I find it hard to believe a toad would break it's jaw with no trauma so I would be worried about a nutritional deficiency.

Thanks for reaching out about Fray. Red leg is typically caused by a bacterial infection, Aeromonas hydrophila andis secondary to other concerns. Water quality and husbandry need to be reviewed and corrected. A veterinary visit is recommended to assist with the prescription of antibiotics needed to treat. Nothing over the counter will treat this, no matter what the advertisement. Good luck.

Tetracycline is commonly used in this species, however it is poorly absorbed if mixed into the water. The best way to treat with tetracycline is to give it orally. Ideally, the frog should be physically examined by a veterinarian experienced in treating amphibians. A dose can be given after the exam. Aid in treatment and recovery by maintaining pristine water quality and environmental conditions. Since tetracycline can cause light sensitivity, you may need to limit lighting (UVB and natural) for a couple weeks during and after treatment.

For the rock size - you are correct - you want to have larger rocks so that your frog doesn’t accidentally ingest any of them. For your last question about the spasms - without further description I would be unable to determine if this was normal or not, but I would recommend ensuring that you have a complete and balanced diet for the species of frog that you have.
