My African dwarf frog with broken foot: Is it injured? Needs vet?

I am so sorry to hear that Frogs was injured, but I am happy that you have found a veterinarian in your area who can see him. If you are seeing a loss of the toes, I would also be concerned about infection. Alternatively, these toes may have fallen off due to a lack of blood supply, which can happen with broken bones as well. I would recommend taking Frogs back to your veterinarian, as they can evaluate him and then prescribe antibiotics if they feel that the area is infected. I hope that gives you a place to start, and I hope that Frogs has a quick recovery.

Unfortunately, no image was attached to your question. If the wound/scar is old or healed and the frog is behaving normally, there is likely no cause for concern. Monitor for redness, swelling, discharge, lethargy or loss of appetite. These are symptoms of potential infection and should be addressed by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating amphibians. Oh goodness, That is very concerning. Does he eat live prey? Perhaps there was an altercation? I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian . He likely needs antibiotics. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Thanks for reaching out about Abby and including photos. The only way to definitively determine if it is fractures is to have a radiograph taken. It could heal on its own, but unlikely to be straight and could become more complicated if left un-stabilized. A veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

Unfortunately for this type of injury there is no home treatment you can do. Hopefully the jaw will just heal on it's own. You just need to make sure he is eating and if not, you may need to force feed some Critical Care diet like this one: ( https://emeraid.com/emeraid-carnivore/ ) Be sure his "normal" diet is 100% correct and that you are using supplements. I find it hard to believe a toad would break it's jaw with no trauma so I would be worried about a nutritional deficiency.

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer and take any decision. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors.
