Just got a clown pleco, why is he not moving or very inactive?

Check the water temperature. This species does best between 68 F and 77 F. Low temps can affect appetite in fish. He may be near the heater for warmth. Check the water chemistry as well. Use a home test kit or submit a water sample for testing. Most pet stores will do this for free or for a small fee. Aim for 0 ppm ammonia and nitrites with a nitrate level of 20 ppm or less. Good afternoon! It is not easy to tell if they are sleeping because they don't close their eyes. What I can tell you is that they are nocturnal so they spend a good portion of the day hiding/sleeping and will be more active at night. Once they adapt well to their environment some plecos will start moving around more during the day.

The dechlorinating solutions do not work immediately can take several hours to lower levels of chlorine and chloramines (typically in tap water). Did you match water temperatures? Diet is important, and all fish have a dietary requirement for vitamin C. Vitamin C is not stable in fish food for more that a few months, so write the date of purchase on the can of food, and discard after 3 months. They are susceptible to cold environs so don't let temperature drop below 65 F. If algae in the tank is limited, algal wafers need to be provided. Aggressive fish as tank mates can be problematic, so plenty of hiding spots are recommended. Good luck.
