How to care for a new baby Bristlenose Pleco algae eater fish?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Fish | Algae Eater | 5 months and 1 day old | 1lb

I just received Spooky in place of a different algae eater that I had. Spooky is a baby. And is a bristle nose algae eater. And I'm not very sure on the way on how to care for this fella very well yet. I am talking to a breeder about the little one. And it's to young to know gender too. Please help me learn what it needs.

Thanks for reaching out about Spooky and including photos. These are fairly easy to maintain as long as algae is available. They are susceptible to cold environs so don't let temperature drop below 65 F. If algae in the tank is limited, algal wafers need to be provided. Aggressive fish as tank mates can be problematic, so plenty of hiding spots are recommended.
Good luck.
