How to stop my Yorkie puppy from scratching and heal neck sores?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 22 days old | 2 lbs

I have a 9 week old yorkie. She is always scratching, and has sores on her neck. What could cause this, and is there something I can do at home to ease her itching and help her sores to heal?

If Prudence is wearing a collar, take it off for a few days. Check her over for fleas. You can place booties on her feet or a baby onesie on her to prevent scratching. This will allow healing to begin. Have her examined by your vet to diagnose skin infection or mites. If she has fleas or evidence of fleas such as flea dirt, you will need to treat her and the environment. Frontline Spray can be used on her safely. You will need to read labels of other topicals preventatives since most have age and weight restrictions. You can also discuss safe flea control with your vet.
