Is Wellness Complete Health Deboned & Oatmeal dog food a healthy choice?

In my opinion, Wellness is not as good a food as Hill's Science Diet and I agree with the recommendation of your vet's office to keep your dog and cat on Hill's. Hill's has better ingredients and is overall a better quality food. In addition, the truth is that grain free food is really a fad. Only about 5% of dogs have food allergies, and of these dogs, the major of the food allergies are protein. Grain allergies are actually extremely rare, and I only recommend feeding a pet a grain free food if they have a diagnosed grain allergy. I personally recommend keeping your pets on Hill's. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Both foods are good! Personally I would save the novel protein (trout) for animals with GI or skin disease. My only requirements for food brands for my clients are: the dog likes the food and eats it well, has a good coat, defecates normal stool regularly and isn't too thin or overweight. Most of the dog foods on the market are aimed at making the owner happy and use marketing ploys to get owners to feed foods for incorrect reasons (grain free, listing ingredients on the bag in differnet orders making owners think that it is better than another brand). Expensive food doesn't equal better. I like Purina, Royal Canin and Hill's Science diet. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concerns with Sirius. Royal Canin is a very high quality food that I find many dogs digest easily. I would not be surprised that you are noticing a difference. I think Wellness Core is a good food but maybe its a little more rich than Sirius is use to. There is another brand called California Naturals that you could try if you want a switch. Pick the low fat one obviously! Hope this helps!

This a regulatory group that ensures the food is healthy and nutritionally balanced for your dog. Next, the dog needs to eat and seem to enjoy the food. He should not have vomiting or diarrhea on the diet or an excessive amount of bowel movements. These are indications that the diet does not agree with him. His hair coat should be glossy as well. There are many types out there that are affordable and good. I like the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends in that category because they are palatable, affordable and of very good quality. There is no best answer to your question! Diabetic dogs often do well on diets low in carbohydrates and high in fiber as this will help to regulate their blood glucose throughout the day. The Wellness senior is not quite as high in fiber as w/d. These diets are similar in fat content, which can play a role in pancreatitis. I would try feeding the Wellness senior diet and nothing else for 1 week and recheck with your vet. Signs that this is an appropriate diet for Snickers would be that he has no vomiting or diarrhea, eats it well, and his blood glucose curve is stable at his current dose of insulin. It is important to check glucose curves after starting a different diet since it may change his insulin needs.
