Should my weaned puppy drink cow milk, powdered milk, or just food?

There are commercial puppy formulas that are the best option, but there are some homemade puppy formulas as well. She does not need milk supplement at that age. I would continue to feed the puppy food she is used to for several weeks. When she’s settled in you can then switch her if you prefer another food. Personally I use Purina dog foods. I start with puppy, go to adult when grown, senior food when old, and the special foods as needed if she develops a medical problem that using a special diet will help. Your puppy does not need cow milk and it can actually cause vomiting and diarrhea in some dogs. The puppy can go from mother's milk or a puppy milk replacer (if bottle feeding) right to eating a high quality puppy food. The puppy food can be mixed with some milk replacer in the beginning to make it easier to eat.

I would recommend feeding puppy milk replacement not just milk. If you gave milk then the puppies can get diarrhea which can dehydrate them. If you gave puppy milk replacer it is a good thing that will give them nutrients they need. This is a good question, and I really wish the answer was yes. Unfortunately puppies and kittens can't drink cows milk. They need a formula solution that can be found at your local pet store or Veterinarian. The milk we drink can cause upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea and can't be safely substituted for mothers milk.

Jackey is very cute. Do not give him cow's milk, it's not appropriate for dogs. It's also not nutritionally balanced for him, and it won't fill him up, leading him to cry for more food. He needs to be weaned onto a puppy food. To help him wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with puppy formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until he is eating the dry puppy food only. I would feed him at least four times a day. I hope this helps.

You may need to add water to the dry food to soften it up for her to eat. You can also add puppy milk to the food so she is familiar with the food.
