Are Tri-Heart Plus & Simparica good, affordable heartworm & flea meds?

BUT if this is the first time giving one or both of the drugs then I would give one at a time 2 days apart in case one causes a problem. Then if there are no issues give them together next month. It is ok to give trifexis and simparica together (staggered by 2 weeks is great). Both of those medications will protect against fleas so there is some overlap with that. If you want to streamline how many medications you are giving Dakota monthly, Another option would be to use sentinel or interceptor instead of the trifexis and give with that with simparica monthly. These products contain the same heart worm preventative (milbemycin) as trifexis but do not contain any medication to kill adult fleas. (Trifexis contains both the milbemycin for heart worm prevention and Spinosad for fleas). That way you would be giving one medication for heart worm prevention (sentinel or interceptor ) and one for flea and tick prevention (simparica). Another option is to continue trifexis and add in a tick collar (such as the preventic collar or the seresto collar). I know there are so many products and options it is confusing ! Although both are oral heart worm and intestinal parasite preventatives and typically speaking, giving two heart worm preventatives together or within a short amount of time is not recommended, combining these two preventatives together accidentally one week apart should not result in a negative reaction. Sam may have some transient diarrhea or vomiting, however. I hope this helps put your mind at ease and best wishes to you and Sam!

Yes, you can give both products at the same time and Charlie will likely do fine. If you want to be extra cautious, separate them by two days. Neither product had activity against ticks. If ticks are a concern where you live, you can switch the products to something like Simparica for fleas and ticks and the Interceptor for heartworms and intestinal worms. Hello. There is no need to separate these two products. There are some heartworm products that should not be given within 2 weeks of some of tick & flea products such as Bravecto & Nexgard, but administering a dewormer will not cause a problem with your flea product. I recommend offering a small meal or treat beforehand so that there is a little food in her stomach before getting these medications.
