How to train my 8-month puppy who jumps, pulls, digs, and whines?

I find that when a puppy bites, if you insert your thumb under the tongue and hold it there until the puppy is annoyed, they eventually start licking instead of biting. This can take multiple times for the puppy to get it but I find this works quite well. A spray bottle filled with water used to lightly spritz Trixie in the face will help as well while saying "off!". You can use the spray bottle technique as well to stop her from digging holes in the backyard. I hope this helps! It sounds like you need more professional help if you have tried training her and this is where you are at. I recommend a private trainer than can work one on one with you and Bella. A group class setting will not get you where you need to be. I applaud you for trying to fix this now at such a young age. I can't tell you the countless numbers of animals I see where the owners think this behavior is okay. Pack leader ideology is an outdated training method, so I wouldn't put too much weight into it. I would highly recommend checking out training techniques such as loose-leash walking, and working on sit and look at me commands to help improve focus while out on walks (and decrease pulling). Training tools such as an easy-walk harness and gentle-leader can also help during the training session by gently redirecting your dog's pulling force back to you, preventing them from being able to tug your arm off while you practice good walking behavior. As for the other issues, a basic obedience class together is a good thing to look into as it can help you better learn to communicate and help instill some impulse control with jumping and other behaviors. Working on things such as air-planing treats, not jumping up (by turning and walking away, or having him sit calmly), etc can help with this as well. There are several videos on YouTube that offer great step-by-step instructions on all of the commands listed above.

It's likely that Darby is frustrated about not being able to get somewhere that she wants to go - you can help this problem by calling her name and encouraging her to go in a different direction, and rewarding with a treat when she follows you. Biting and mouthing is very normal behavior for a puppy this age - this is how puppies explore the world, and how they instinctively want to play. Make sure that she has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. She should also have lots of different things to lay and chew on, such as bully sticks, rawhide chews, cow or pig ears, and puzzle toys such as a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. She will grow out of this behavior on her own as she gets older, but in the meantime, just redirect her to one of her own toys and use that to play with her instead. If she continues to get overly excited and try to bite, give her something to chew on (such as one of the options I mentioned above) to encourage her to settle down and relax for a while.

These are all completely normal behaviors for an untrained puppy :) You will need to teach CJ how to greet people and ask for attention politely - otherwise, he doesn't know what you want him to do. Keep him on-leash when he greets people so that you can prevent jumping up, and praise and reward him with treats for sitting nicely as they approach to say hi. Ask him to sit or do some other polite behavior to ask for something, rather than barking or whining - reward with a treat when he does. I would also recommend feeding the dogs in separate rooms or crates, then picking up the food bowls once they are finished - this will prevent him from being able to eat your other dog's food, and will ensure that the other dog has a chance to eat in peace.

Pilot sounds like your average, rambunctious and mischievous puppy dog. All of what you are describing are perfectly normal puppy behaviors. With proper training, enrichment, and patience on your part, Pilot should become a well-adjusted adult dog in time. Beginning obedience class at this early of an age might be a little frustrating, but I still think it is a great idea as long as the trainer is patient as well. Your best option is to work with a professional trainer. Some puppies are harder to manage than others and the trainer can provide not only guidance but also teach you techniques for how to get Bailey to act the way you want her too. These behaviors are not unusual for a puppy but training does need to begin ASAP and remain consistent. You must also make sure to meet all of Bailey’s exercise and mental stimulation needs or her behavior is not likely to improve. Reading about behavior and training will also be beneficial. Stick with trainers who utilize positive reinforcement techniques. There is a trainer named Victoria Stilwell who has written several books and I recommend to read them.
