How to train a young dog that bites, barks, and jumps on counters?

Getting him neutered will help with some of the behavior but training will be needed also. Discourage him from jumping by keeping him on a leash and pulling him back every time he does it. When he bites tell him no and give him something acceptable to chew on instead like a toy or bone. Consistency is the key with behavior.

This is very normal behavior for a puppy this age - jumping up is a natural greeting behavior for dogs, and biting and mouthing are how puppies explore the world. You will need to be patient and consistent to teach him what you want him to do. When people come to the house, he needs to be on a leash or in another room behind a baby gate until he calms down. Praise and reward with treats when he keeps all four feet on the floor, or teach him to sit for greetings. Make sure that he has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. Providing lots of things to chew on can also help, especially when you are busy or have company over - try things like bully sticks, cow or pig ears, rawhide chews, and puzzle toys like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. These are all completely normal behaviors for an untrained puppy :) You will need to teach CJ how to greet people and ask for attention politely - otherwise, he doesn't know what you want him to do. Keep him on-leash when he greets people so that you can prevent jumping up, and praise and reward him with treats for sitting nicely as they approach to say hi. Ask him to sit or do some other polite behavior to ask for something, rather than barking or whining - reward with a treat when he does. I would also recommend feeding the dogs in separate rooms or crates, then picking up the food bowls once they are finished - this will prevent him from being able to eat your other dog's food, and will ensure that the other dog has a chance to eat in peace.

This may be a dominance issue as he is growing up and passing through puberty. The best thing you can do is have him neutered immediately to help minimize the dominance behavior. From there you need to reinforce you are in charge and that behavior is unacceptable. make sure you correct him every time this happens and give him appropriate items to play with and chew on. Make sure he is getting plenty of exercise also. If all of these fail they do have medication that can with behavior training from your vet

Before resorting to medication, try getting him into an obedience class. This will teach him to look to you for guidance and see you as the leader instead of the other way around. Neutering can help also, but he may be a high energy dog that needs lots of physical activity and mental stimulation to be better behaved. He is young so this is the perfect time to teach him what correct behavior is. Take him for lots of walks, go for runs, play fetch, arrange playdates with other dogs so he can roughhouse, teach him tricks, anything and everything to tire his body and give his mind something to do besides think of ways to get into trouble. A tired dog is a happy dog. It may be a stage that he needs to outgrow and lots of activity will help. If all this doesn't help or not enough, ask your veterinarian what they recommend.

I strongly recommend enrolling in some solcialisation classes run by a certified trainer or behaviorist in order to improve his interactions with other dogs and his focus on your commands. This will take a lot of time and patience on your behalf given his is fully grown now, I would also consider neutering him as long as there is no fear/anxiety in his behaviors - ask the trainer to fully assess before you schedule this and consider a temporary castration implant initially which will reverse over 6months or so if necessary

I think you need to get Pablo into some training. Call your veterinarian and ask for a recommendation for good training in your area. In the mean time make sure he is not allowed on the bed, or tha furniture where he would be elevated to “equal”’status. Make him obey a command before you feed him, pet him, etc. good luck. He is young enough you should be able to get a handle on his behavior if you jump on it.
