Is Taste of the Wild puppy food good for my GSP's sensitive stomach?

There are various opinions about Taste of the Wild and I personally prefer not to feed it. Since your dog is still a puppy I would strongly recommend feeding one of the reputable scientifically computed brands such as Hill's Science Diet , Royal Canine or Iams. Feed a puppy feed suitable for the size and age and your puppy will have the best start in life. What you feed into Bruno now, will pay off later in that you will have a dog who developed and grew up to his best genetic potential without health issues caused by insufficient nutrition.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Even though Addison's stool was negative for parasites I would still deworm her. Sometimes the adult worms do not shed eggs in the stool. Intestinal parasites and giardia are common causes of diarrhea in puppies. Otherwise I do not think it is wrong to change her diet. Chicken is the main allergic protein. Whether you want to go grain free, that is up to you. The meat protein is more important. I think Taste of the Wild is fine, I feed my dog one of their foods. No food is perfect for every pet but my patients on Taste of the Wild are doing well. If it is labeled for “growth and reproduction” or “all life stages” and if Sixx has normal stool, a shiny coat, and is gaining weight - it’s a good diet for him! Best of luck to you and Sixx!

Taste of the Wild is a great food, but it is what we call a premium food. Premium foods do not contain any fillers, so the food is more bio-available. What that means is that Luna will need to eat less of Taste of the Wild than Science Diet. Usually, I recommend starting on the low end of the feeding recommendation on the bag, but sometimes we have to go even lower than that depending on an individual dog's metabolism. No, I do not recommend it. It's a grain free diet, and vets are seeing a rise in heart disease in dogs who are fed grain free and boutique diets. Dogs are dying from this, and the FDA is now researching it. Grains are fine for dogs, grain free is a fad. I recommend brands such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Taste of the Wild is one of the better quality diets available. Feed it to Bella exclusively for a minimum of 6-8 weeks then re-evaluate her anal gland issues. Adding additional fiber may help by aiding defecation which is what causes the glands to empty. Add one teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin (NOT pie filling) to the diet once or twice daily. I find that dogs really like them and they are fairly inexpensive. They also seem to help with cleaning the teeth a bit. Have a good day!
