My dog is two years old and I've done everything I could since she was six months old to potty train her she only potties in one spot in my house and advice to break her habit?

House training can be very frustrating. It is possible that Roxie is continuing to urinate and defecate in that one spot because there is still a smell there. Using an enzymatic cleaner such as Nature's Miracle will help to remove the odor-causing compounds and make it less likely that Roxie will use that spot to potty. It is also important that you block Roxy's access to this area for a while. When having problems house training I recommend that owners set a timer and take the dog out every hour during waking hours. Each time you go outside and Roxy pees or poops praise her lavishly with words or with a yummy treat. When you are not home confined her to a crate or small room. The crate should only be big enough for Roxy to stand up and turn around. A crate that is any bigger will allow room for Roxy to pee or poop and move away from it making it more likely that she will go to the bathroom in the crate. If you are still having house training issues even after implementing these suggestions I would recommend that you have Roxy seen by your veterinarian as she may have a medical condition.

All rooms with doors should be closed and she needs to be gated to be kept in your site. Or she needs to be leashed to an adult until this behavior has stopped. The area she is soiling needs to be cleaned with an enzymatic pet cleaner, like Nature's Miracle. She needs to be take out frequently and verbally praised, as well as given treats, when she goes outside. Play with her for 5-10 mins. If she doesn't go outside she is crated or leashed to an adult until you take her out again. This training should go on for 3 months and she can have free reign of the house once there are no accidents for those 3 months. You can have her urine checked for crystals or infection by your Vet and consider having her spayed to see if that helps. I wish you the best!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Roxy. It is always difficult to tell if puppies are having true urinary issues verses potty training problems. If she continues this behavior, she will need to see a veterinarian to see if she has a urinary tract infection. It is a more likely condition in a female pup given their anatomy. My puppy pees inside after frequent trips. Crate training failed. Help!

It's possible Kiara may not be getting enough time outside to go potty. Even if she goes once and then comes back in, her bladder may not be completely empty. Keeping her outside and letting her go 2-3 times before bringing her back in may help. Other options include keeping her in a gated off area until she is potty trained/proves she isn't going to have an accident, using an enzymatic cleaner on any areas she has an accident to discourage her from going there again, or even using the tether method of attaching her to you by a leash so you can catch her before she has an accident may help. Speaking with a trainer in person, especially if she is terrified of her crate is also a good idea. My adult dog pees inside. How do I house train them to go outside?

Great question! I can give you the method I recommend for potty training puppies, which should also work with Jojo. Start by keeping her on a regular feeding schedule, and taking away her food between meals. Take her out to potty first thing every morning, and once every hour to couple of hours in the beginning. Always make sure she goes out after meals, first thing when she wakes up from a nap, last thing before bedtime at night, and right before you leave the house. Take her to the same spot each time to go potty. Her scent there will encourage her to go. Stay with her outside each time she goes to potty, at least until she is fully house trained. When she goes outside, praise her and give her a treat. You might want to consider crate training as part of her house training. It allows you to keep an eye on her for signs that she has to go potty, and will teach her to hold it until you put her outdoors. The crate needs to be big enough for her to stand up, turn around, and lie down, but it should not be big enough for her to go potty in. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, getting your dog to the use the bathroom in one very specific spot is not gong to be easy if it has run of a large area. Generally speaking, dogs natural behavior is to sniff and search for a spot that they see as suitable to mark their territory. They seldom utilize the same spot multiple times unless they see a reason to do so. That being said, if you can provide some sort of reward for your dog for using the spot that you had in mind, this might up your chances for success with Coco. The other option would be confining Coco to a smaller area until she is using the spot that you'd prefer. Once she is using this spot with some regularity, try expanding her freedom in small amounts day by day. Hope this makes sense.
