How to stop my dog from barking for attention every morning?

Hello and thank you for your post! You can use a citronella collar to help deter his behavior. This is a harmless spray collar that spritzes citronella in his face whenever he barks. When it comes to dog behavior modification it is all about positive reinforcement and most importantly a lot of patience, persistent and cosistency. I would encourage you to start giving the treats at a later time so that she can bark and not affect your neighbors. Now, what you are going to do is that you let her go until she stops to your command for her to calm down. When she finally does you praise her and give her the treat. Sooner or later she will associate staying quiet with something positive. It just takes some time. Once she learns then you may be able to go back to the morning routine. Patience is key. Continue to reinforce the "No bark" command. Try to determine the cause for barking (boredom, hunger, stress, anxiety,etc) and decrease or eliminate the stimuli. When Pilot barks, you respond. You have now reinforced this behavior. You need to find a new way for him to "ask" for something. The best option is sit. When he wants your attention he needs to sit first. When he does, then he gets what he wants. You don't pay attention to him until he is sitting. This goes for eating, going outside, petting, when you come home, when he wants you to throw the ball. Basically, you need to retrain him and only positively reinforce when he is still and quiet. I would give it some time and training. Ziggy is a young dog and his exuberance on walks around other dogs is to be expected. It would help for you to start some "learn to earn" training. This means before Ziggy gets anything desirable (like a treat, attention for play, going outside, getting a meal) he has to sit and focus on you for a second. To facilitate this you start in the home where there are minimal distractions. Use a treat to get Ziggy to sit and look at you while saying "focus" or whatever command you want. Continue to do this before Ziggy gets anything fun or desirable. Eventually you can practice this behavior on walks so Ziggy is less triggered by other distractions. As always with training time and consistency are key. Everyone in the household should practice this with Ziggy. It may take a few months for him to get it down pat. Has he always done this, or is it a new behavior? Had he been sleeping through the night at any time? The fact that he is continuing to bark, even after he's been out, tells me one of two things: either there's a sound (that you may not even be able to hear) that is disturbing or exciting him, or he has you trained to get up when he barks. To a dog who is seeking attention, any attention, even negative (such as shouting at him) is satisfying. If you are sure his bathroom needs have been met, try ignoring Wish. Do not respond in any way to his barking. Understand that, since you have reacted before, he will probably up the ante and bark more, or louder, to get the response he is used to. Don't give in!!! That will just make it harder to correct. After a few days to a week, when his behavior is not getting the desired result, he will stop. Figure out what he gets out of barking and remove it. Don't give your dog the opportunity to continue the barking behavior. But don't ever shout at your dog to stop barking, because they see that as you 'barking' with them and it does little to discourage them. Ignore your dog's barking for as long as it takes him to stop. That means don't give him attention at all while he's barking. Your attention only rewards him for being noisy. Don't talk to, don't touch, or even look at him. When he finally quiets, even to take a breath, reward him with a treat. To be successful with this method, you must wait as long as it takes for him to stop barking. Yelling at him is the equivalent of barking with him. Teach your dog the ‘quiet’ command. Oddly, the first step is to teach your dog to bark on command. Give your dog the command to "speak," wait for him to bark two or three times, and then stick a tasty treat in front of his nose. When he stops barking to sniff the treat, praise him and give him the treat. Repeat until he starts barking as soon as you say "speak." Once your dog can reliably bark on command, teach him the "quiet" command. In a calm environment with no distractions, tell him to "speak." When he starts barking, say "quiet" and stick a treat in front of his nose. Praise him for being quiet and give him the treat. Make sure your dog is getting sufficient physical and mental exercise every day. A tired dog is a good dog and one who is less likely to bark from boredom or frustration. Depending on his breed, age, and health, your dog may require several long walks as well as a good game of chasing the ball and playing with some interactive toys.
