My new adopted dog is peeing and pooping inside. How do I stop it?

At this point o would not be too worried about no bowel movement as long as she is eating, drinking and behaving normally. she may have a few accidents as she works on becoming acclimated to her new home but remain consistent and use positive reinforcement and she should adjust quickly.

Hi there. It sounds like Koko may simply not be fully housetrained. This is generally a very fixable problem, but it will take a lot of consistency and patience on your part since she's four years old now and has an established habit of pottying in the house. You'll need to train her just like a new puppy, with lots of trips outside, rewards for pottying in the yard, and complete 100% supervision, all the time, in the house unless she's crated or in a dog-proofed room where accidents are easy to clean up. Hi there. At 8 weeks old, Mimi is still a tiny baby - puppies have very little bowel or bladder control at this age, so it's normal for her to urinate and defecate frequently at random times throughout the day. You need to take her out every 20-30 minutes at this age, so give her plenty of opportunities to do her business outside. Praise and reward her with a treat each time she goes. Inside, supervise her constantly and take her out immediately if you see any signs that she's thinking about using the bathroom - circling, sniffing the floor intently, etc. Don't scold or punish her for having an accident in the house, as this will only make her afraid to go to the bathroom in front of you - which then makes potty training much harder! I would not be overly concerned about this just yet. Dogs can hold it for a pretty long period of time. It is not great for them to do so but it should not be harmful at this stage. Are you sure she hasn't gone somewhere in the house? If you are taking her out on a leash, she may not be used to going on a leash - this happens a lot. So you may have to have her off leash. Don't make too much of a big deal when you take her out. Only say whatever word you want to cue her to use the bathroom like "go potty". Do not say or do anything else. Once she goes give her a good treat of something she likes. If you don't have an off leash area then I suggest you do the same as above just on leash instead of off. Try to take her to a spot where other dogs have gone as this usually stimulates them to go. Urination is most important. If she goes 24 hours without urinating you need to get her to a vet. It may be days before she defecates and that is not as concerning. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Potty training your dog or puppy can sometimes be a challenging task. However, with the steps below and a a lot of patience, you can have your dog potty trained quickly! Keeping a schedule, focusing on times when your dog needs to go, keeping the area clean, and stopping accidents before they happen will make the potty training process much easier. The steps are; Keep a routine- Most dogs will need to go out about 5-15 minutes after activities such as eating and drinking, playing, or waking up from a nap Know your dog's body: puppies, the rule of thumb is that they can hold their bladder at most 1 hour per month of age. This means a 2-month old puppy can hold his potty for a maximum of 2 hours. This is just a general rule and smaller dogs or those with bladder control issues may need even more frequent outings. Be sure to never let your dog go more than 8 hours without a potty break to prevent hurting their bladder! She may have been trained to potty inside, you can try leaving out potty pads for her to go inside. She may also not be used to having to go potty in a busy, loud, or concrete-filled environment. Give her more time. Keep treats in your pocket and take her out often. Use a command like "go potty" and repeat it when you first get outside. When she does go outside, give her treats and LOTS of praise (people should be thinking you are a wackadoo!). Eventually she will figure out that going outside is a good thing that makes you very happy.

I recommend crate training. This is usually the easiest way to housebreak a dog. The key is that she must go back in her crate if she does not potty outside. Leave her in the crate for 30 minutes at a time. Then take her back outside for another 15 minutes. If she doesn’t urinate this time, she goes back in the crate. You keep repeating this until she goes outside. Once she urinates outside, then she is free to be in the house. You should carry her each time so she cannot pee on the carpet.
