Is white or clear vaginal discharge normal for a spayed dog?

When you say you saw a white discharge you do not indicate where you saw the discharge coming from. Since you discussed heat later in the question I assume you mean you saw discharge from the vulva. An occurrence small amount of whitish discharge can be a normal finding. However, if you are noticing a yellow or blood tinged discharge, if she is drinking more than usual, if she isn’t eating well or otherwise acting “sick” then I would be concerned. Pyometra is an infection of the uterus and can be fatal. So if you are concerned that you are seeing abnormal vaginal discharge then she should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Discharge from this area can either be coming from the urinary tract (uti, etc ) or reproductive tract. Likely your vet will rule out uti first with a urinalysis and urine culture. A sterile vaginal exam may also be recommended. If persistent and not related to a uti then it may become important to make sure she was properly spayed. This could be normal with nothing to worry about. If the discharge thickens, becomes yellow/green, or even a pink tinged color then I would be concerned about a vaginitis or pyometra. Pyometra could be life threatening if left untreated. If the clear discharge doesn't subside within a few days or if at any point she isn't acting right or stops eating, I would try to figure out a way for her to be seen by a vet. I would just be up front with the vet clinic about your cost concerns so they can be sure to get you an estimate and also come up with a plan that will suit both you and Freya's needs. A little bit of discharge is normal and may not be related to the surgery. You should how ever always pay attention to any changes or deviations from Ginger's 'normal'. I recommend to call your veterinarian and tell them what is happening. They may ask to examine her again to look at the discharge under a microscope to check for any infection or they may suggest something else. Hi ! If Holly is well in herself, eating bright passing normal feaces and urine, I would not worry. A little bit of vaginal discharge is expected folllowing the surgery and should gradually decrease and disappear. It can take sometimes a couple of weeks for it to settle completely. How do you know that the progesterone level is high? That would be very unusual unless she is in heat and ovulating. The discharge in the photo does not appear to be from a heat cycle and you stated she is spayed. If she is spayed she cannot have high progesterone. I suggest you have her checked out by a veterinarian as this is not normal discharge for a spayed female dog.
