Why is my dog still having white discharge 3 weeks after spay?

A little bit of discharge is normal and may not be related to the surgery. You should how ever always pay attention to any changes or deviations from Ginger's 'normal'. I recommend to call your veterinarian and tell them what is happening. They may ask to examine her again to look at the discharge under a microscope to check for any infection or they may suggest something else. Hi ! If Holly is well in herself, eating bright passing normal feaces and urine, I would not worry. A little bit of vaginal discharge is expected folllowing the surgery and should gradually decrease and disappear. It can take sometimes a couple of weeks for it to settle completely. I am assuming she is on an antibiotic. if not, then your vet should start her on an antibiotic. If she is on an antibiotic then you should call your vet as he/she may want to change antibiotics. After 4 days, I would expect any discharge to be decreasing.

Hello, sorry to hear about Pepper. Vaginal secretions like this could be normal especially in an intact female. However, if she had a heat about 3-4 weeks ago, this discharge could be more concerning for an infection (pyometra) or a false pregnancy. Other signs associated with a pyometra could include a decreased appetite, lethargy, painful abdomen, and persistent discharge from her vulva. If you note any of these, then Pepper should be evaluated by her veterinarian immediately. Finally, discharge from the vulva could indicate a urinary tract infection, vaginitis, perhaps her heat cycle. If you note continue to note this discharge, then have Pepper evaluated. I am not sure what type of vaginal discharge you are discussing. If there is a little blood post spay that can be normal. Blood can leak into the vaginal region. This is normal a few days post spay. However if this last I would be concerned and he needs to go back to the vet. Sometimes anal glands can get impacted and infected. I would recommend having a vet try and express them to make sure they are normal.

Hello, sorry to hear about Kaia. They could indeed have some discharge from the vulva for a few days after spaying. However, any frank blood would not be considered normal and should be addressed immediately. Lethargy can persist for a few days as well, especially if on pain medications. The watery discharge from the incision could indicate that she is having a small incision infection or that she is developing a seroma (liquid produced by the body) due to excessive movement. You can cold compress the area 3 times daily for the next 3 days, then switch to warm compress 3 times daily and see if this improves the discharge from the incision. You must keep her rested to allow for full recovery. If you note any persistent discharge from her vulva then she should be evaluated by her veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor Abby! Discharge is not common from surgical incisions, but a very small amount of clear discharge can still be within normal limits. However, if the discharge is bloody or pus-like, this could be indicative of an incisional infection or suture reaction. Regardless, since Abby is panting and acting abnormally, I do recommend taking her to the vet for evaluation since this could be a sign of pain. Until you take her to the vet, be sure to keep an e-collar (cone) on Abby to prevent her from licking at her incision, as this would likely make matters worse.
